| Dr. Matt J. Matthews received his veterinary education at UC Davis. He has practiced exclusively on horses in north San Diego county for 22 years although his association with horses began at age 5. His equine experience started with pleasure horses and trail but that evolved into gymkhana, western pleasure, then to saddle seat equitation. Dr. Matt's family home was on a thoroughbred horse farm in Valley Center. He raised, broke and trained young horses for the racing industry until veterinary school.
Dr. Matt is a member of the American Association of Equine Practitioners, the American Veterinary Medical Association, the California Thoroughbred Breeders Association, the Society for Theriogenology. He is a frequent lecturer on equine medical topics.
Dr. Matt devotes his time to the medical care of horses, to his six children and veterinarian wife Dr. Nancy Matthews. He works daily with all types of horses. His specialites include lameness issues in performance horses, specialty reproductive techniques, disease management and equine dentistry.
